QGCA proudly presents Beyond Survival Mode: Thriving as a Guidance Officer/ School Counsellor with Megan Corcoran
This session is designed specifically for education professionals working in high-demand, relational roles, people who are skilled at supporting others but rarely given the space to examine what that work costs them, and what genuinely sustains them. This includes:
- The reality of the work — understanding vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and the cumulative impact of working in complex environments, without pathologising the experience
- Why individual self-care is not enough — shifting the conversation from personal responsibility to systemic and relational conditions that protect wellbeing (while still empowering us in the parts we can control)
- What actually helps — practical, evidence-informed strategies for moving beyond baseline coping towards something more sustainable
- Building community as a protective factor — how connection, trust, and shared language within teams and professional networks directly buffer against burnout.
WHEN: Saturday 10th October, 9.30am-1pm
WHERE: Auditorium (D101), University of Southern Queensland, Springfield Campus.
COST: Free for QGCA Members. Non-Members $30.
